DJ and EDM producer Marshmello made history as the first artist to give a virtual concert in a video game. The event drew a whopping 10 millions people. At the time, it was the highest attended concert ever.

To promote the release of Avengers: Endgame, players could take the fight against Thanos, wielding Captain America's shield or Hawkeye's bow in a new limited game mode.



The year before, Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet were solely introduced to promote Avengers: Infinity War.



John Wick

To promote the third John Wick movie, an official John Wick character was introduced in the game store. The resemblance with actor and action hero Keanu Reeves was striking.


John Wick is currently one of the most popular action franchises with three films released and a fourth chapter planned.

Nike introduced its iconic Air Jordan sneakers in the Fortnite game store. Players could purchase two Jordan themed outfits, choosing multiple accompanying sneaker styles.


Along came a limited game mode where players could skate around a new urban themed map, collecting coins.


Stranger things

Ahead of the release of the third season of Stranger Things, strange portals started to appear on the Fortnite map. Later two skins for Chief Hopper and the Demogorgon were released.

To promote the release of their upcoming game, Epic Games teamed up with the creators of Borderlands 3. Transporting players to Pandora, the Borderlands game world, and bringing Psycho and Claptrap along for the ride.



Batman

To celebrate Batman day, Fortnite introduced two new skins and a few Batman related gadgets for players to purchase.


Players could also explore a mini Gotham City and glide around as the Caped Crusader himself. Or climb the roofs as

Catwoman.



Deadpool

Deadpool was recently unleashed onto the Fortnite world. Players could unlock the Merc With a Mouth by completing weekly challenges.


Later in April, members of the X-Force were added and a Deadpool unmasked skin terrified players.



Travis Scott

More than 27 million players tuned in for the virtual concert of rapper Travis Scott. Hereby surpassing last years Marshmello concert as the most attended concert ever, albeit a virtual one.



The 'Astronomical' event included exclusive skins, emotes and much more.

Disney regularly collaborates with Fortnite to bring some Star Wars themed items and events to the game. Most recently on May the Fourth, aka Star Wars day.


To promote the release of The Rise of Skywalker, players could fight with lightsabers for the first time and play as their favorite hero or villain.

To celebrate Fortnite reaching 350 million registered players, Epic Games announced another live concert, featuring artists Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki and deadmau5.


With this event Epic Games is trying to push Fortnite towards a place where players can meet and hang out instead of being just a game.
